Here's what you need to know about the freshest music venue in Manchester.
15 Nelson Street, Bristol, BS1 2JY
SWX opened in September 2015, rebranded and refurbished from one of Bristol’s largest nightclubs into a multi-faceted venue ready to open its doors to high calibre DJs and sensational live artists alike. Recently under new ownership, the venue is looking use its incredible sound system and independent status to bring some of the best and biggest live music shows to Bristol, whilst continuing its reputation for incredible weekend club nights.
How many people does it hold?
For live shows, the main room holds up to 1100, and for full venue club nights, the capacity is 1800 dancing bodies.
Who has played there? / Have there been any “I was there” moments?
Live legends such as Thee Oh Sees, Ride, Sylvan Esso and killer club appearances from Big Shaq, Sigala and Clean Bandit. The most exciting though is what’s to come!
” One of the most memorable shows was Insane Clown Posse. A last-minute transfer as the original venue pulled out, we watched in astonishment and awe as 1000 Juggalos enjoyed being drenched with cola and rubber chickens.”
How do I get there?
You can hop off any bus or coach in the city centre and walk to the venue in 2 mins, or from Temple Meads station you can get there on foot in 15mins. Map below!
Where should I eat?
Located smack bang in the centre of Bristol you’re spoiled for choice of where to eat. Being Bristol though, we love our independents! Some of our favourite spots include Burger Theory who have a ridiculous array of burgers for carnivores, veggies and vegans on nearby St Stephen’s St. Or for something quick and spicy head to Chilli Daddy on Baldwin St and make some friends at their shared table!
Where can I stay?
Depending on your budget you can stay anywhere from an Air BnB with a river view to the Rock n Bowl Motel around the corner; literally a hostel above a vintage-style bowling alley.
Don’t miss out on the support acts for the live shows! The venue has had some really incredible support lineups and you never know, you might find your new favourite artist.
For club nights, you get an amazing stage view from the balconies.
Where can you carry on the party?
Right here! SWX serve you tunes and booze until 4am on the weekend. But if you’ve had a few bevvies at a live show and want to keep the party going it’s not far to Mr Wolf’s or Thekla for a dance, or Kings Street for a tasty pint of craft beer.
