Venue Guide: Brudenell Social Club

Everyone in Leeds loves The Brude. It’s a lively and fun-loving venue that embraces music and art under a wide and diverse umbrella that has no boundaries. It has been a centrepiece of the Leeds music scene for a number of years, and hosts gigs most nights of the week, which are put on by a variety of local promoters.

Brief history

The Brudenell Social and Recreational Club has a long and varied history. It was formed all the way back on December 8th, 1913! The first premises and land was bought shortly afterwards where it is still located today.

Kaiser Chiefs, Explosions in the Sky, Four Tet, Frank Turner, The Cribs & loads more.

Have there been any “I was there” moments?

Franz Ferdinand played a “secret gig” in 2004 and the Kaiser Chiefs did the same a year later. These were special shows.

How do I get there?

The venue is only about a five quid taxi from town, it’s well serviced by bus routes and in walking distance from Burley Park train station.

Where should I eat?

Pitza Cano on Queens Road have been serving up top-notch pizzas for over 25 years, they know the score, so get involved!

A normal or Air BnB in town would be your best bet.

Go early, the pub in there (separate from the venue) is great and brilliantly affordable – plus there’s a beer garden. Finally, if you’re in town, they have a sister bar called The Social with some awesome pies. If you’re there for a few days, check out what else is going on – they have festivals and community events, film nights… all sorts.

Call Lane is one of the more lively nightlife spots in Leeds, popular with professionals and students alike. Full of bars playing every type of music you can think of, you’re sure to find a favourite.
