Ones To Watch 2018: Lewis Capaldi Q&A

Escape the realms of reality by listening to Lewis Capaldi's otherworldly acoustic sound...

Lewis Capaldi is an absolute gent! He filled us in on some important stuff ahead of what we believe will be a life-changing year for him.

What has been your highlight of 2017?

Definitely being able to tour as much as I have, I’ve been lucky enough to tour Europe this year, play a festival over in Hong Kong as well as do my own shows up and down the UK. For me being a musician and wanting to pursue music as a career was just me thinking I wanted to play live, I always viewed recording and anything else secondary to playing my songs to people in person and while now, I enjoy every part of the things I’m lucky enough to be able to do every day, playing live is still very much what I look forward to most, like when I’m writing a song I’m already thinking I can’t wait to play this live.

What does 2018 have in store for you?

I’ve got a lot more gigging coming up luckily enough for me, I’m doing my first shows in America, a sold out headline show in LA on the 4th of January followed by a full US tour supporting Milky Chance. Loads of UK/US/European and even Asian festivals on the horizon as well. Beyond gigging I’ll just be writing and releasing a lot more music with my next track hopefully being out before my next headline tour round the UK!

What is your favourite thing about playing live?

Getting to meet the people who’ve made it possible for me to be playing the shows I’m playing and who are directly responsible for me being able to make music my career! I think with streaming and social media etc. although they’re great platforms in terms of reaching new people with your music and connecting with people who are into your tunes, it doesn’t always feel real if that makes any sense, so it’s good to really get to see how many people are into the stuff I’m doing and actually talking to them face to face.

How would you describe your sound in one sentence?

Chubby sad boi music

Who was the first band or artist you saw live?

It would’ve been Busted or McFly definitely, think I was about 8 or 9, from what I remember they were class.

What venue would you absolutely love to headline?

Barrowlands in Glasgow would be one just because it’s such an iconic venue in Scotland, I’ve seen so many bands there as well over the years so for me that would definitely be a big moment. Red Rocks in America is another one that I’d love to do!

What artist would you love to tour with?

Tenacious D.

Who inspired you to take up music?

My brother was always in bands growing up so I suppose I just liked the look of it and thought I’d give it a go myself!
