We caught up with Jade Bird ahead of what we believe will be the biggest year of her career to date…
What has been your highlight of 2017?
I must say being selected for BBC Sound Of 2018 was pretty unexpected and overwhelming. Favourite moment though would probably be my headline show in London, there was so much love in one room – it was amazing.
What does 2018 have in store for you?
New music!!! My own headline tour!!! And …. My first video!!!
What is your favourite thing about playing live?
I think I love the spontaneity of it, I really like to engage with my audience, try to make them laugh… then try to make them cry haha! But I guess it’s just a very honest experience, me and a guitar and people who want to listen… most of the time 😉
How would you describe your sound in one sentence?
Ballsy, fun and honest… a bit of a new take on the singer-songwriter thing.
Who was the first band or artist you saw live?
Avril Lavinge … I was about 6 living in Germany … and I fell asleep after the first 3 songs haha.
What venue would you absolutely love to headline?
The dream would be Royal Albert Hall.
What artist would you love to tour with?
Who inspired you to take up music?
Well, I started playing piano when I was 7 … and had been the owner of a small ukulele from the age of 3.. I guess it was always going to find me but a family friend played guitar and from then on artists I loved have inspired me.
