Alternative singer-songwriter set to release a spectacular début album she made with War on Drugs’ producer in between her record-shop shifts…like you do.
Your Friend – Heathering
Your Friend (real name Taryn Miller) released a self-produced E.P. called “Jekyll/Hyde” in 2014 – a gorgeous collection reminiscent of Wye Oak, Sharon van Etten & Dear Nora. Since that time, the Kansas born & based musician has been on a enviable trajectory. Booked for Red Bull Music Academy, and then as support for the fantastic Christopher Owens towards the end of last year – by her own admission, it’s been a steep learning curve.
The new album, entitled “Gumption” will be released in the UK by Domino on the 29th of January 2016. The first track to be unveiled from that LP is “The Heathering”, an incredible track that retains the intimacy of Miller’s enchanting vocal style while experimenting with a smorgasbord of subtle electronic treatments. It’s reflective of Your Friend’s growth in confidence as an artist as well as the contribution of War on Drugs’ producer Nicolas Vernhes. As previously alluded too, sessions were held in between Miller’s shifts at her local record shop. It’s going to be interesting to hear more of the results from this collaboration – just don’t try and compare
