New Music: Samm Henshaw

Picture this. You’re sat in a bar in Shoreditch with your best friends. It’s the middle of summer and as ever the humidity in London is at a ridiculous level. It’s midnight, you’ve had one too many Negronis and you need the perfect song for a pick me up. I have found that song.

Let me introduce you to Samm Henshaw. The 22-year old Londoner with all the soul of Otis Redding, the style of Pharrell Williams and the guitar chops of John Mayer. “Our Love” is the perfect jam for the aforementioned Shoreditch scenario. The track, taken from his recently released second EP ‘The Sound Experiment 2’ is as good as anything you’ll hear this year. The harmonies are sweeter than a mars bar dipped in sugar and the chorus will be stuck in your head for days. Check it out for yourself below.

I managed to catch Samm live for the first time back in May at The Great Escape. He’s the kind of artist whose music is suited to both stages large and small. Which is handy as he’s supporting Chance The Rapper on the Chicago rapper’s massive sold-out UK dates in November. If you’re going along to those shows I highly recommend you get down there early to catch his set. By this time next year, you wouldn’t bet against him headlining those venues. Here’s a taster of what he’s like live, from his Mahogany music session.

Sam plays a special London headline show at Village Underground on 10 Oct. Tickets are available at
