New Music: KYKO

Having broken through last year with the tremendous ‘Animals’ EP, South London’s KYKO is about to cement his place as one of pop music’s brightest up-and-comers with his super catchy new single ‘Native’.

Still only 19 years old, KYKO – real name Scott Verill writes and produces indie pop that perfectly sits in-between chart toppers such as Bastille and The 1975. The singer-songwriter fuses melodic guitar rhythms with his soulful vocal tune to create his own take on the genre. There’s a lot of pop sensibility in the song writing and production throughout everything that KYKO has released so far.

Having grown a reputation as an impressive live act, KYKO hit the road in February supporting TicketWeb favourites Fickle Friends and US rockers X-Ambassadors on the latter’s London and Manchester dates.

Building on the success of the ‘Animals’ EP, which was streamed over a whopping 2.5m times, KYKO recently dropped newest single ‘Native’ on the Manchester based indie label Lab Records. The track builds on the foundations created on his first release and then some. Radio 1 have got on board with the single and the track has been spun by DJs Alice Levine, Greg James, Claro Amfo and Scott Mills. Listen to the track below.

If KYKO keeps consistently produces tracks of this quality, the future is looking very bright for the young pop star.
