Let us introduce you to Aquilo, one of pop music’s brightest hopes.
Formed in the Lake District by neighbours Ben and Tom, Aquilo make heart wrenchingly beautiful and occasionally melancholic pop music. The pair frequented the same venues growing up, but didn’t actually become acquainted until Tom Stumbled onto Ben’s music on one of those late night Soundcloud sessions that most music fans are more than familiar with.
When Aquilo started posting tracks online the interest was sudden. Management was quickly on board and the boys were given some of the best advice possible. Concentrate on writing music. So that’s what they did! Juggling working life with the aspirations of being a pop star is no mean feat, and Aquilo would find themselves working late into the night to find their sound.
All that hard work payed off. Island records snapped up Aquilo and they’ve been dropping songs of real quality consistently over the past twelve months, being warmly received by the blogosphere and picking up support from Radio 1 DJs Huw Stephens and Annie Mac.
Seeing Aquilo live is an epic experience. The duo visited US shores for the first time in 2015 and performed at CMJ Festival for TicketWeb in New York.
Everything feels like Aquilo are building up to releasing their debut album in 2016, it promises to be a very special record.
