New Music: Abattoir Blues

Abattoir Blues are a Brighton-based band banging out ’80s Post-Punk music with an Emo twist. Get a load of this quintet and their complete package of impressive instrumentalists, soaring songs and emotive lyrics.

You might be thinking “where have I heard that name before?” And I can tell you that it is taken from a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album, the band Abattoir Blues however, do not sound like the album name they have commandeered.

Currently on tour supporting The Wytches and The Big Moon, the full complement of George, Sam, Ed, Scott and Harry has existed for just over a year now. The band have found their rhythm of late after recording some quality tunes, they are now out in the thick of it getting tonnes of live shows under their belt, Abattoir Blues are in their element on stage and take no prisoners with their no-holds-barred  powerful performance.

The band are not afraid to get political in their Emo-tinged post-Punk Rock songs, adding a thought-provoking element to an already unique and enjoyable sound. This has enabled the Brighton band to grab the attention of publications such as NME; it’s a refreshing trait in a modern day Rock band.

“Fading” is about the migrant crisis, it was written a year ago and if anything the lyrics hold even more meaning today than before. “Lie to yourself, it will be just fine.” Harry is passionate about the issue and his genuine anger and frustration at how emergencies like these are acted upon in modern society really comes through in his big chanting vocal delivery.

“Sense” was officially released just last weekend, it’s an incredibly complete song, every instrument excellently complementing the vocal. There is a downright delightful riff running from the intro into the verse chilling the listener out before hitting them with the high-octane drum and fuzz-heavy chorus and bridge complete with Harry’s intense singing.
