There are so many good bands in Manchester at the moment it’s getting hard to keep track of them all. Well, you can add The Blinders to the ever-growing list. Here’s what you need to know…
The Blinders are comprised of Thomas Haywood (guitar, vocals) Charlie McGough (bass) and Matthew Neil (drums, backing vocals)
The Blinders make one hell of a beautifully-crafted-din. Distorted guitars, driving bass and pounding drums make the foundation whilst vocalist Thomas shouts, screams and sings (some of the harmonies in The Blinders tunes are amazing) his way through each track. If bands like Slaves, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and Cabbage are your thing, then The Blinders should be right up your street.
The trio met at School in Doncaster and bonded over a mutual love of fellow Yorkshire tunesmiths the Arctic Monkeys. After finding their feet and moving over the Pennines to Manchester, they released their debut single “Swine” in 2016 and received support from tastemakers such as Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Daniel P. Carter and Radio X’s John Kennedy. Watch the video for the track below, like a heavyweight boxer, it hits hard.
An absolutely ferocious force live, the band have appeared at Reading and Leeds, Isle Of Wight and TRNSMT festivals. Their last tour saw them sell-out The Borderline in London and Gorilla in Manchester.
The Blinders are currently gearing up for the release of their debut album Columbia, featuring latest single “L’etat C’Est Moi.” Clash Music described the track as “a delirious indie stomper with a heart of gold” which is a pretty accurate way of summing it up. Listen to the tune below…
The album comes out on 21 September 2018 and the band will head out on their biggest ever headline tour shortly after to celebrate its release.
