Autumn has arrived and festival season is a distant memory... Or is it? First Fifty is here to save us from the doom and gloom.
Blending delicate acoustic sounds with low-key synths SYML creates powerful soundscapes that are sure to delight fans of contemporary singer-songwriters like Bon Iver & Ben Howard. Check out “Clean Eyes” below – one of the first cuts of SYML’s new material which appeared online little over a month ago.
SYML – Clean Eyes
Prior to performing as SYML Fennell was the driving force behind indie band Barcelona. SYML took full form when the track Where’s My Love appeared on the TV show Teen Wolf. The huge number of streams generated by the track encouraged Fennel to formalise the solo project. SYML translates as simple in Welsh and reflects a heritage that the artist was never previously able to explore. As he explained to onestowatch.com :
I’m adopted and didn’t know what my heritage was until like way late in life, like mid-20s. And both my parents were from Wales, so I’m like 90-something percent Welsh. So that’s the significance for me–it’s my heritage. And “simple” is just a reminder for everything aesthetic. I appreciate simplicity.
