Presenting the post-punk four piece breaking out of Brighton in a big way.
Influenced by artists as diverse as Gill Scott-Heron, The Clash & J Dilla, Oscar Jerome is putting smooth sounds back on the table. Check out Oscar performing his latest single “Do You Really” for Colors.
That’s right, you get it.
Oscar studied classical guitar and then jazz at London’s Trinity Laban music school but he’s never limited himself to a single oeuvre as he told Clash magazine earlier this year.
“My records are definitely jazz-influenced”, he continues, “but then I’m equally influenced by hip-hop, punk, West African music, soul and lots of other genres. I don’t mind the jazz label as much now, though, because it’s gained a much more positive connotation in the last couple of years.”
Oscar has been honing his craft collaborating with countless artists across the thriving South London music scene since an early age but now his solo offerings are really starting to turn some heads. His eponymous debut EP was widely celebrated in particular by Giles Peterson on his BBC 6Music show. In support of the record Oscar also played live shows at the prestigious New York jazz joints; Blue Note Jazz and Le Poisson Rouge. New track “Do You Really” looks like it could be the catalyst for even more attention.
