The Sound

Creativity collides with raw talent when Monster Florence get in the studio. They cook up some game changing instrumentals backed up with big bass heavy beats, these are then fed to three distinctive rappers all equally capable of chewing them up and spitting party-starting fire while also provoking thought. Their genre has been described as “a hybrid of hip-hop, punk, with an influence of UK grime”.

Monster Florence popped up on my Discover Weekly this week on Spotify. For those of you who don’t know Discover Weekly monitors your listening habits, finds songs you haven’t heard that it thinks you’ll like and puts them in a unique playlist. I had been listening to Kendrick Lamar, BadBadNotGood, Loyle Carner, Stormzy & Anderson .Paak among others. Mix them with a bit of Punk Rock and you’ll be close to Monster Florence.

The Story

Monster Florence roared in to the Rap realm last year, they’re a young group fresh on the scene approaching Hip-Hop music differently. The Groove was released in early 2016, this debut EP ranked in the top five of the iTunes Hip-Hop chart. Their second EP Bad Gear came at the end of 2016 and further flaunts the groups unique flavourings. This has earned the intriguing squad a couple of festival bookings.

Monster Florence will be sharing the BBC 1Xtra stage with Danny Brown, Flatbush Zombies, Bugzy Malone and Vince Staples at Reading and Leeds festival. Pretty impressive company to be in considering Monster Florence was only born in 2016. The debut album “Foul Part 1” is due out this year.

Essential Tracks

“Resourceful” was released in February as a standalone single and it’s absolute fire. Check out the visuals below:

The whole collective’s skills are showcased on “Beautiful Death”. There’s supreme lyrical delivery and listen to that clever use of the guitar… smashed it!
