Festival Guide: The Great Escape’s First Fifty
Autumn has arrived and festival season is a distant memory... Or is it? First Fifty is here to save us from the doom and gloom.
Music
Check out the indie-folk 5-piece fronted by North London duo Jim Higson and Daniel McCarthy...
The Sound
Acoustic driven melodies play over Afro-beat rhythms inspired by the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club & Half Moon Run. Check out their latest single Moonlight which is out now thanks to the good guys at Mahogany…
The Story
Jim Higson (vocals) and Daniel McCarthy (guitar) met while studying at Leeds College Of Music and quickly developed their sound based around their close harmony vocals and rapid finger picking guitar style . Early interest from the likes of Mahogany encouraged the pair to return to London where they recruited Ben Batten (Drums), Reeve Coulson (Bass) & Dan Lee (Guitar). With only a handful of songs online the band have gathered a tonne of taste-maker support from the likes of Wonderland, DORK Magazine and many more. Most notably the band were chosen to headline BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders’ Hopscotch UK Tour in November alongside Apre and Sun Silva before a triumphant show at The Great Escape’s First Fifty festival.
