Classically influenced Croydon chap – Jamie Isaac, is creating immersive ambient music that is just down right cool. No two-ways about it.
Recent BRIT school graduate, 22-year-old South Londoner Jamie Isaac.
Isaac himself says he would never write a song without a piano line in it and depicts his music as “brooding, cinematic and minimalist”. So we’ve a singer-songwriter from London playing minimalistic music on the keyboard, put like that I suppose the James Blake comparisons are fair enough.
Jamie Isaac is no copycat however, he has taken the genre in a different direction fusing his ambient tones with old skool jazz and Hip-Hop break beats, throw a bit of Soul and R&B in the mix too and the sky is the limit as to where he can transport the listener.
Noisey describe Isaac’s debut album as the “quintessential sitting at home and smoking weed with your friends record”. Take what you will from that.
Discovering and nurturing his singing talent in a Croydon choir from the age of 11, Isaac encountered the immersive powers of music. Isaac is an accomplished pianist and has merged his classical influences with modern day musical styles and technology.
Still a teenager he caught the attention of all the right people; Jamie Isaac unleashed his debut EP I Will Be Cold Soon to the world in 2013 he signed to House Anxiety/Marathon Artists and released his second EP Blue Break in 2014. A collaboration-focused mixtape and his debut album Couch Baby came in 2016.
The future looks bright for the 22 year old; just today he was announced as the support act for BadBadNotGood ‘s headline London show. This is the exact kind of company Jamie Isaac would like to keep going forward.
Get your ears on “Find The Words” for some spaced-out chillaxin ambience. It’s track 2 on Isaac’s debut album Couch Baby.
Jamie Isaac released the “Loose Grip Mixtape” last year too, it consists of remastered and remixed versions of his own tunes. Isaac enlisted the help of Dublin rapper Rejjie Snow for the “Last Drip” remix.
