Who?
Aussie indie rockers Gang of Youths are David Le’aupepe (lead vocals, guitar), Joji Malani (lead guitar), Max Dunn (bass), Jung Kim (keyboards, guitar) and Donnie Borzestowski (drums).
The Sound
Anthemic indie-rock provides the soundtrack to Le’aupepe’s contemplations on life after love and loss with respectable nods to the likes of Arcade Fire, War On Drugs, U2, The National and Bruce Springsteen. Check out the newest single “The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows”, which promises to cement Gang of Youths’ position as one of the next great big indie rock bands.
The Story
Having formed in 2012 in their hometown of Sydney, Gang of Youths have been steadily taking bigger and bigger audiences audiences by storm and this month find themselves on the cover of Rolling Stone Australia.
Their debut LP “The Positions”, released in 2015, chronicled front man Le’aupepe’s struggle with coming to terms with his then-wife’s battle with cancer, and his subsequent breakdown when the marriage collapsed. Their highly anticipated second album “Go Farther in Lightness”, is out here in UK on 13th October.
Essential Tracks
Stand out hit single from the first album, “Magnolia” defiantly commemorates Le’aupepe’s 2014 suicide attempt in a somehow uplifting anthem…
