Introducing: FEET

Meet the Coventry-formed five-piece reinventing Britpop for the present day.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Parquet Courts, Talking Heads and Pulp, meet FEET – the Coventry-formed band merging post-punk sensibilities with a hearty dose of modernised Britpop.

Who?

FEET are lead vocalist George, guitarists Harry and Callum, bassist Oli, and drummer Ben. Or according to their Facebook page, Jeep, Rains Parker, Nhs, and Hookings.

The sound

Earlier material including the recently re-released Petty Thieving may have strong post-punk leanings – filled with the raw energy of recent success stories IDLES and Fontaines DC – but Coventry’s FEET separate themselves from the admittedly impressive pack with their jaunty songwriting, one that recalls Britpop legends such as Pulp. Yet placing comparisons aside, this is upbeat guitar-led indie rock unafraid to challenge preconceptions and rules.

Their most recent single Dog Walking, the final piece of the puzzle to arrive ahead of their anticipated debut full-length What’s Inside Is More Than Just Ham, simultaneously demonstrates their love of the new romantic. It’s indicative of their catalogue to date, one that travels broadly across multiple sounds and styles, but firmly demonstrates their defining quirk.

The story

The majority of FEET met at Coventry University, releasing debut single Petty Thieving and drawing the early attention of interested record labels and managers. Their creative process has since seen them live communally in some unusual locations, not least a Portsmouth retirement village. It was here that former Dead Pretties member Ben joined the fold, ultimately kickstarting the band’s gradual shift from post-punk to indie.

What followed was the more fun-loving English Weather, perhaps an antithesis of its title, the atypically spoken word-esque Ad Blue and the rousing Outer Rim. All feature on their debut full-length, the oddly titled What’s Inside Is More Than Just Ham, due on Friday 4 October 2019 through Clapped Records.

Increasingly famed for their energetic live show, FEET have fittingly spent much of the summer of ’19 playing festivals across the UK, reimagining the British sound of the early ’90s and delivering the same vibe in spades.
