Introducing: Blaenavon

Say hello to Hampshire-born heavyweights Blaenavon. The Indie three-piece who’s awesome talent got them signed to one of the UK’s biggest independent labels when they were still in school.

Who?

Ben Gregory (Vocals)

Frank Wright (Bass)

Harris McMillan (Drums)

The Sound

Blaenavon cite Pavement as an influence and NME wrote “for fans of: Wild Beasts and Wu Lyf” in relation to the bands earlier work. The English three-piece have come along way since their debut EP, Ben’s vocal is excellent, there’s impressive instrumentals and clever songwriting. They describe their genre as “ghostjazz”.. mix whatever that is with Bombay Bicycle Club and you’ll git a bit of Blaenovan.

The Story

Ben, Frank and Harris formed the band about halfway through secondary school. They went from winning their final year talent contest in 2013 to signing a record deal with Transgressive the very same year. Blaenavon also released Koso their debut EP in 2013 while they were still in school. Fast-forward to 2015, the exams are finished and the lads can fully commit to being Indie rockstars.

Blaenavon released their second EP Miss World, toured the UK and got a lot of live shows under their collective belts, including supporting Foals and Bloc Party. They finished their tour playing Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds and Latitude last year. The Hampshire trio are supporting Two Door Cinema Club on their upcoming European tour. That’s Your Lot – the debut album was recorded with Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Bjork) and is scheduled for release on the 7th of April.
