Introducing: Amyl & The Sniffers

Do you smell something awesome? That'll be Amyl & The Sniffers - perfect for those of you with the munchies for some east coast Aussie-punk...

Mullet-sporting Melbourne punks fronted by Amy Taylor with former housemates Dec Martens on guitar, Bryce Wilson on Drums
& Gus Romer pumping the Bass. Get to know the guys by checking out Beat Australia’s video for the band’s barnstorming “I’m Not A Loser” below…

The Sound

Amyl & The Sniffers self-identifying as Rock’n’Roll, Pub punk but whatever you call it this is raucous stuff. Think of riot-girl punk and AC/DC’s greatest hits locking horns in a fight to the death (or at least incapacitated). There’s some no-holds barred lyrics too including the gem”People say that I am a c*%t, But I pay the rent on time every month.” You cannot argue with that.

The Story

As you might expect Amyl & The Sniffers aren’t the result of an intricate master-plan. Their first EP “Giddy Up” is widely reported to have been written, recorded & put out in a single day In fact, listening to band, it’s a miracle they exist at all. As guitarist Dec told,“We never planned to be a band. It was just one of those gung-ho things. We never planned to play a gig. Our second EP (Big Attraction) was written just so we could fill out a set!” But that was 2016, fast forward to March this year and Clash magazine made the band the lead image on their round up of the best punk bands coming out of Oz right now. The band have announced a handful of UK shows in May this year and are set to embark on their first North American tour in June with fellow Melbournites King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard.

Essential Tracks

70’s Street Munchies

An ode to the post night-out take-away stop? Maybe. Either way the tune’s a banger and has inspired us all to tape-up our nipples.
