From being the frontman of a next big thing indie band to becoming a soulful Americana maker, here’s how Adam Day has reinvented himself as County Line Runner.
County Line Runner is the alter ego of British songwriter and musician Adam Day.
It’s a joyous experience listening to County Line Runner’s latest single Saw You In A Dream. A 3-minute slice of escapism that transports you to somewhere else entirely, making those worries disappear for a small but blissful moment.
Heavily rooted in Americana, the track contains all the hallmarks from the genre, but what is most striking about the song is the artist’s storytelling ability, with lyrics that would be just as effective written down as poetry. Hugely catchy, you’ll find yourself singing along to the chorus after just once listen.
The Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan influences are in plain view, but if you’re a fan of bands like The Gaslight Anthem and The Hold Steady, then we heartily recommend giving County Line Runner a try.
You may remember Adam from his days as the frontman of The Lyrebirds, who shone all too briefly with a set of EPs, and tours with the likes of The Maccabees and The Big Pink, before splitting in December 2010.
Fast forward almost a decade, in summer 2018 the musician released debut track Hard to Find under the County Line Runner banner, which was quickly followed by second single Wide Eyes. Immediately catching the attention of some of the most respected ears in the business, BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq jumped on the tunes and started spinning them on a regular basis.
The debut tracks were recorded at Liverpool’s Parr Studios and were produced by the former The Coral guitarist Bill Ryder-Jones.
Someone else who became a fan of County Line Runner was producer and record label CEO Alex da Kid, who urgently signed the musician to his Los Angeles based Interscope imprint KIDinaKORNER, home to Imagine Dragons and Skylar Grey.
County Line Runner released his debut single on the label, Saw You In A Dream in June 2019. The tune saw the musician reunite with Bill Ryder-Jones on production duties, and is the first glimpse of the songwriter’s forthcoming debut album.
As you’d expect from an artist who cut their teeth playing in a band, live performance is an important element to County Line Runner, and the musician’s set at the most recent The Great Escape Festival in Brighton this May was widely recognised as a highlight from the weekend.
The musician will hit the road this autumn for a debut run of headline dates under the County Line Runner banner.
