It’s a familiar sight you may have seen before – boy on guitar, girl on the drums – but before you reach for your White Stripes comparisons, we urge you to put down your cliches and let the music speak for itself. Comprised of friends (and colleagues) Ben Forrester and Lucy Brown, Bad Grammar follow in the footsteps of their many Manchunian forefathers in pursuing the musical dream, and we’ve got to say, it’s a blessing they have. As far as comparisons go, they say they’re similar to Pulled Apart By Horses and another banging rock duo/long-standing TicketWeb faves, Drenge, and we are inclined to agree. Lucy’s hair also reminds us a bit of Julie from Deap Valley too ❤
So, what else do you need to know about Bad Grammar? We as for actual bad grammar, our personal experiences would say that they’re doing alright with the English Language. Witty, scathing lyrics like, “they say your appetite is insatiable, but sweetheart, your make-up is terrible” from their forthcoming single, Clown, attest to a a strong grasp of the words of our world. Speaking of Clown – which you can stream below from their VEVO – it’s out on Monday 23rd of February on Flatpack Records as a double A-side with Who’s Yer Mate. Grab that here.
Also featuring on the single is a live version of Who’s Yer Mate from when they played on Dr Marterns’ #StandForSomething Tour last year, which showcases brilliant musical talent in some of the UK’s most authentic venues. #SFS was just the icing on the cake for a summer of shows that included The Great Escape, Dot to Dot and Southsea Festival, not to mention being hand picked by none other than Andrew W.K. as part of Y Not Festival.
Add to the mix a whole host of big station radio play and some very complimentary reviews from the likes of The NME, Clash Magazine and Artrocker, and we’re pretty sure that’s a recipe for success.
This Saturday (21st February) Bad Grammar will be supporting Queen Kwong at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen and the band features none other than Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit fame – yes, Limp Bizkit getting name dropped in 2015, who would have thought? Anyway, it’s FREE entry, so there’s absolutely no excuse. We expect to see you down the front. Clown make-up optional.
