Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen is one of London’s best-loved small music venues. The venue is tucked away on Hoxton Square, away from the general madness of Shoreditch.

Brief History
In terms of indie bands and artists, there aren’t many that haven’t started out playing a gig in the venues’ 300 capacity live room. Having been the hotspot to see new bands since the early noughties Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen is a constant driving force in London’s independent music scene.

The wider venue also regularly hosts Superculture events–  an independent residency programme that actively encourages the growth of grass roots arts and culture.

Fun Facts:
The venue was home to Boombox, one of London’s most legendary parties, which ran every Sunday from 2006 – 2007 and counted the likes of Bjork, Roisin Murphy, Kate Moss, Wolfgang Tilmans, Princess Julia and Jonny Woo among its guests. Boombox recently threw a 10-year anniversary party where the original crew reunited to celebrate.

The site was originally built as the ‘Lux building’ in 1997 and the site which is now the live room housed a cinema.

At a ‘Stranger Things’ themed Halloween at the venue, the cleaning cupboard was transformed into a shrine for Barb.

Have there been any ‘I was there’ moments?
Future BBC Sound of 2017 winner Ray Blk played the venue for her debut headline show in 2016. Stormzy made a guest appearance.

How do I get there?  10 mins walk from Old Street and Hoxton 

Where should I eat?
The award-winning Orange Buffalo – the venue’s current restaurant in residence for all your pre or post gig chicken-based needs. Flat Iron for a great steak, or Dishoom for incredible Indian food. 

Where can I stay?
SO many places.. a few of the best are ACE hotel, Hoxton Hotel or if you’re on a budget – ‘The Dictionary Hostel’

Anywhere – the high stage means there isn’t a bad place to stand in the room. 

Where Can You Carry on the Party
The venue is open till late most nights (till midnight Monday – Thursday and 2am on Friday and Saturday nights) with feel-good club programming and DJs ranging from everything to disco, to hip-hop to world music.

If that’s not late enough for you, Village Underground and XOYO are just across the road and open till 4am.
