Playlist: Yuna

Presenting Yuna, a sassy soul singer-songwriter hailing from the much sunnier climbs of Malaysia.  She’s made us a playlist!

She’s featured on the soundtrack to 2012’s Savages, plus she’s also had a track produced by Pharrell Williams and released ‘Crush’ with none other than that smooth operator Usher, pretty neat, huh?

Like what you hear?  She’s just announced a London show at the blimmin magnificent KOKO, grab a ticket while you can.

Udit Narayan & Mahalaxmi – Dil Se Re

One of my favourite Hindi song. It’s so beautiful, I listen to it when I miss home. Hindi films are huge in Malaysia so this reminds me of the lazy hot afternoon, fan turning slowly and watching hindi films on our grandmother’s old tv in black and white.
Anggun – Rose In The Wind

As a little girl you always try to find someone to look up to, someone who look just like you and Anggun was this South east asian girl from Indonesia who made it big, makes good music..it’s crazy to think that we’re friends now. I love her so much! I don’t think she knows! This is my all time favourite song from her.
Mew – Introducing Palace Players

Growing up I listen to a lot alternative/rock music…I love Mew and this is a song from that is always on my playlist when Im driving…LA traffic can be ridiculous but listening to this whole album makes it easy for me. This is one of my favourite song from them.
Nneka – Heartbeat

I remember watching the music video for this and I thought it was really cool. I feel like now when I listen to Nneka I just have moving pictures from that music video in my head.

Miles Davis & Robert Glasper – They Can’t Hold Me Down Feat Illa J

I love this song and the lyrics to this song. I randomly found Robert Glasper one day and listened to this song for the first time, and was instantly hooked.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra – So Good At Being In Trouble

My guitar player played this in our green room one day, and I immediately added it to my playlist.

H.E.R – Losing

Losing came up on my iTunes one day, and I listened to this song, and after that immediately bought the whole album. Im so happy to see they’re getting a lot of recognition since the album dropped!
Joao Gilberto – Desafinado

I love bossa. This is a song that I wake up and listen to almost everyday. I know the words to the song, not understanding a word he’s singing though.
Angie Stone – Wish I Didnt Miss You

This is my favourite song to drive to. I would have this on repeat and sing along to it, pretending I can sing like Angie Stone.

Anderson Paak – Come Down

I love the bass line / guitar line on this song and the high hats. And Anderson of course.
