Irish singer-songwriter and producer Roisin Murphy originally became known to the wider world as the voice of trip-hop duo Moloko. Formed in Sheffield in 1994, Moloko went on to have several top-10 hits including tracks such as Sing It Back, Familiar Feeling and The Time Is Now, before disbanding in 2004.
Post Moloko, Murphy went on to forge a successful career as a solo artist. The musician has released four albums so far, including the 2015 Mercury prize nominated release Hairless Toys.
Throughout 2018, Murphy released a series of four 12 inch records, consisting of eight tracks in total.
Roisin Murphy is playing two shows in Newcastle and Glasgow this May. The Glasgow show is sold out and limited tickets remain for the Newcastle gig.
Ahead of the gigs, we got the musician to make us a playlist of some of her favourite tracks to listen to whilst on the road and to tell us a bit about them.
KH (Kieron Hebden) – Only Human
This track is new, fresh straight from the genius that is Kieron Hebden aka Four Tet! It’s music like this that gives me hope for modern music.
Mark E – Scared
Probably my favourite ever EDIT, it builds and builds up to a surprisingly familiar climax!
Moloko – Sing it back – Matthew Herbert remix
This mix led me to my solo career as I loved it so much I went on to make my first solo album with Mathew.
The Stooges – I Wanna Be Your Dog
Perfect song, incredible energy, great for tour bus mosh-pit and general band bashing.
Black street – Don’t Leave Me
Come and have a dance with your mum, don’t be ashamed!!! My era R&B, classic!
Roisin Murphy is playing The Boiler Shop, Newcastle on 19 May 2019. Tickets are available now through Ticketweb.co.uk
