2019 is a big year for No Hot Ashes.
The hotly-tipped Stockport based indie-pop makers are days away from releasing their debut album and will be hitting the road shortly after to celebrate.
Due for release on 16 August 2019, Hardship Starship features the singles W.Y.N.A and latest track Extra Terrestrial.
To support the release, No Hot Ashes will head out on a huge headline tour, including a date at the all-day Un Dia Festival in Sheffield on Saturday 24 August 2019.
With all that time spent on the road, we thought we’d ask the band what tunes they’ll be listening to, to while away the hours spent on the motorway.
Here’s what they came back…
Action Bronson feat. Chance the Rapper – Baby Blue
“BIG tune from the BIG man. This song never leaves the playlist in the van. A romantic jam touching on broken relationships and bitter consequences. Gorgeous piano riff and mellow beats.”
The Streets – Has It Come to This?
“Lyrically and musically this tune (and album) touched and inspired us on so many levels. If you queue this in the van you’re deffo getting a beer.”
Bootsy Collins – I’d Rather Be with You
“*Cue the slow snake hips* we’ve been playing this tune pre-show in the van for years. Bootsy is one of our biggest inspirations. Again, lyrically and musically this song just makes you wanna groove. TIGHT rhythm section. Note the claps and finger clicks never stop throughout the whole song. Genius.”
Violent Soho – Covered in Chrome
“A huge tune from our Aussie brothers. Massive fuzz guitar tones, big drums and Pixies-like dynamics. This tune always gets us going. YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH!”
Ratatat – Wildcat
“A recent addition to the van playlist. Taken from their second album Classics, which is nearly 100% instrumental. Electronica, Rock, Psychedelia & Funk fusion. What more could you ask for? Video game-like harmonizing guitars are a highlight.”
Vulfpeck – Back Pocket
“The funkiest and best thing to happen in 2015. Wicked tight bassline and drums with beautiful vocals and smooth backing vocals. Absolute genius. Catch us dancing in soundcheck to this one.”
MF DOOM – THAT’S THAT
“Genius track from the illusive MF DOOM. Sick flows with gorgeous strings in the distant mix. Note the awfully flat singing at 1.42 which is strangely beautiful. A great selection of fun sampled sound effects.”
