It’s International Women’s Day! So it feels appropriate to point out how much women are killing it in music right now. We’ve picked some of our favourite artists you need to know about, who just happen to be female, or in the case of the bands on this list, have at least one female member.
Lande, Muncie Girls
About: Punk rock with meaning. Spearheaded by bass-playing frontwoman Lande whose lyrics have been praised by many.
About: Potentially your new favourite pop star. Her single “Don’t Kill My Vibe” is an absolute jam.
About: Dagny broke through with the super impressive ‘Ultraviolet’ EP last year. She has been racking up a HUGE amount of Spotify streams.
Hannah Greenwood, Creeper
About: Since becoming a full-time member, Hannah has added a whole new dimension to Creeper’s sound. Expect loads of vocals from her on their upcoming full-length Eternity, In Your Arms. She’s also not afraid to call out sexist bullshit.
About: Fiery hip-hop firmly rooted in the London sound. Nadia Rose is going to blow up!
About: These ladies from Los Angeles make sundrenched cool-as-you-like indie.
About: One of 2016’s biggest hip-hop breakthroughs. Her ‘Queens Speech’ series on YouTube is phenomenal.
About: Gothic Tropic is the brainchild of Los Angeles native Cecilia Della Peruti. Has just completed a UK tour with Kate Nash and went down a storm!
Hannah Lou Clark
About: Hannah Lou Clark makes fuzzy indie-pop which will warm your heart. Her latest EP ‘It’s Your Love’ was a standout from 2016.
About: From across the pond, Kelela makes sultry infused R’n’B pop. Solange is a fan and featured her on her latest record.
Nicola Deel, Doe
About: Nicola Deel is the lead singer/guitarist in UK rocker’s Doe. They released their debut album Some Things Last Longer Than You in September and have been filling bigger and bigger venues up and down the country. since.
About: Muna are onto something special. The LA pop trio recently announced two London shows which sold-out instantly. Oh, their debut album came out last month and it’s AMAZING.
About: East London lyricist Stefflon Don has serious genre-crossing talent. She has a footing in grime, hip-hop, R’n’B, dancehall and much more. Sure to be down a storm during festival season.
Lyndsey Gunnulfsen, PVRIS
About: American rockers PVRIS, fronted by the brilliantly talented Lyndsey Gunnulfsen have been growing a supremely loyal fanbase over the past few years. Fans are eagerly anticipated their sophomore album, rumoured to be coming this year.
