Gigs Of The Week
We've picked out this week's best gigs.
If you’ve never seen Flamingods live, you’re missing out.
The London-based psych pop rock makers are a joy to listen to on record, however, to see them reproducing that in front of your very eyes is an experience to behold. Rather than just watching a gig, you feel like you’re participating in a giant house party.
Flamingods are currently preparing for the release of their brand new album Levitation. The record is due for release on famed indie label Moshi Moshi on 3 May 2019. Watch the adventure-filled video for the album’s lead single Marigold below:
The band will be performing a handful of headline dates around the album’s release.
Curious about what gets them fired up before a show, we asked Flamingods to make us a pre-gig playlist of tunes that gets them in the mood. Here’s what they came up with.
Tears for Fears – Head Over Heels
This euphoric bit of 80s pop history has been doing the rounds in the van recently. It’s that feel-good pick-me-up that never fails to put us in a good mood before a show.
Paul McCartney – Coming Up
Discovering Paul’s left-field experimental side recently has been a treat. Most days we’re usually pumping heavy iron in the dressing room before the show to this cheeky dance floor number.
Shintaro Sakamoto – Mask on Mask
This relentlessly infectious funk-groove gem by indie cult star Shintaro Sakamoto is always a great one to get lost in before a show. Showcasing unusual vocal harmonies, it’s also great for vocal warmups and vocal tuning!
Lee Hazlewood – My Autumn’s Done Come
For those times when sound check and travelling around has been an absolute nightmare and you want some alone time, this tranquil beauty on headphones is four minutes of solitude and bliss for us before a rambunctious show.
OOIOO – UMO
OOIOO’s ferocious tribal cheerleader anthem “UMO” has without fail gotten us mega pumped before we play, and we channel that raw energy into our shows each and every time.

1 May 2019 – Village Underground, London
11 May 2019 – The Great Escape Festival, Brighton
