Playlist: Barry Adamson – Road Food

Barry Adamson is heading out on tour in Spring next year. We got the maverick Mancunian musician to make us a playlist of tunes he’ll be listening to on his down time on the road and tell us a bit about them. Enjoy!

Justice – “Safe and Sound”

You can almost taste the idea of taking off. In this case, Justice set us off on the road. The car eases on out to where we know and away from what we know, taking all we know with us.

Half Moon Run – “Full Circle”

Steady as she blows. We head on out further from the shoreline and the road is now our home and these songs we play and listen to become the food of love that will see us through day after day, night after night until our return, until we come indeed, full circle.

Sonic Youth – “100%”

Way on back. We’re as cool as this track, taking in the view, the sounds and the story of a loss and a need to get into what is on the plate. Songs now become sweet memories and guiding lights as night falls and the hunger kicks in.

Nina Simone – “I Put a Spell on You”

Screaming Jay Hawkins strolled off the tarmac all those days ago when I got a ride back into town with him in Melbourne. This was his song back then. Now it’s Nina’s. Post gig and looking to the greats to put you in your place? This song right here will do it.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – “Maps”

The far away feeling kicks in. The hunger once again. ‘They don’t love you like I love you’, sings Karen O. You so wanna believe it too. The drums and guitar swirl around your head and then we connect. Next services is only five miles away

Barry Adamson – “Black Amour”

Night descends as the sunlight ends. Hey momma I’m on the radio. So this is what I do? So this is why I’m heading on down the only road I know? Next stop the dawn as we hurtle through the blackness and start all over again.

Sly and the Family Stone – “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf agin)

Back into a groove now that satisfies all angles and lays down as part anthem, part revolt and turn it up louder as we carry on through. Night light takes flight and no sleep until the next time we close our eyes.
