There’s a good chance if you have any passing interest in pop music that Dagny will already be on your radar. Her anthemic “Backbeat” has been streamed more than 25 million times on Spotify and her Ultraviolet EP has been universally praised. We think she’s ace, and when putting together our Ones To Watch list, was one of the easiest to agree on. Read our quick catch up with one of pop music’s brightest upcoming stars below.
Hey Dagny! Well done on making our Ones To Watch list! Where in the world are you right now?
Hey! Thank you – I’m honoured. I just got back to the UK after a three weeks writing trip to the US to write for my album!
We caught you live back in August. For those who haven’t seen you, can you describe what a Dagny live show is like?
A DAGNY show is an energetic experience fueled with big pop melodies and tonnes of hook. I like to get in people’s faces and get the audience involved, so you can expect a cheeky little sing-along!
Why is so much great pop music coming from Scandinavia at the moment?
I get this question a lot actually, and though I don’t know exactly why this is I have a theory that there’s always been a good scene for pop music in Scandinavia, but now there is a bigger awareness of it. I mean, the Scandinavian wave is killing it right now with MØ, Zara Larsson, Aurora to mention a few. It’s very exciting!
What was the most inspiring gig you’ve ever been to?
Ah! Most recent in my memory are two shows I saw in LA this year. Andra Day and Mondo Cozmo. Andra Day was just a power demonstration on being a woman in control, I wanted that gig to last for a week. Mondo Cozmo makes music that hits my heart. I was so inspired!
What are you most looking forward to in 2017?
EVERYTHING! RELEASING MY ALBUM! And going on tours! I wanna see as many faces at my gigs as possible, I think it’s gonna be an exciting year.
We think so too. Thanks Dagny!
