New Music: Will Joseph Cook

With a performance at Glasto already knocked out the park, E.P. 1 in the bag and another dropping soon, Kent’s teenage singer-songwriter Will Joseph Cook is ticking a lot of the boxes we look for in our new favourite artist…

Yesterday, Will announced about his 2nd E.P. “Proof Enough” hitting iTunes’ digital shelves and shared the record’s opener “Hearse”. The physical incarnation of the record is released on August 28th 2015. It’s a refined progression from his debut “You Jump, I Run” which garnered more than nice words from the Line Of Best Fit and others.

Across both releases, the songs have an uncanny “Where’s-Wally” ability to constantly surprise you with sounds you weren’t expecting, but which fit perfectly. Will owns a voice with the versatility to evoke the sounds of Jeff Buckley and Ezra Koenig within the same song and there’s even shades of Julian Casablancas solo work – in a good way.

Will’s acoustic sessions with the constantly discerning Mahogany & Sofar Sessions are are brilliant examples of this young man’s raw talent and capture the artist at his most soulful. They’re a wonderful way to appreciate the craftsmanship behind both the songs and Hugh Worskett’s restrained production.
