New Music: DMA’s

The immense global popularity of Britpop in it’s heyday and beyond means the reverberations of the genre are still being felt all across the world today. Hailing from Sydney, Australia; three piece DMA’s are heavily influenced by British bands such as Blur, Oasis and The Stone Roses all while dressing like post Britpop sensations The Streets. That combination could have been a  recipe for disaster, but where certain bands have tried and failed to emulate their 90s heroes, DMA’s have managed to establish themselves by writing very good songs and being an absolute force of a live band.

They’ve just released brand new single ‘Lay Down’ to fanfare across the blogosphere and beyond. Annie Mac is a champion of the band, and premiered ‘Lay Down’ on her primetime Radio 1 Show. DMA’s went out on their biggest UK headline tour to date to promote the single throughout October, taking in legendary venues such as Joiners in Southampton, Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach and Dingwalls in Camden. The riff laden track was recorded in Australia and mixed by legendary producer Mark “Spike” Stent.

DMA’s are poised to make waves next year. With their debut album on the way, plus a slot on Laneway Festival in Australia with the likes of CHVRCHES, Grimes and Hudson Mohawke 2016 looks set to big a big one for the band. Just don’t leave it too long until you’re back in the UK yeah fellas?
