New Music: Bonzai

Allow me to introduce you to Bonzai, who now resides in London having been raised in Dublin and born stateside. She produces and performs intricate and imaginative futuristic R’n’B with no boundaries.

The 20 year old singer-songwriter has just finished supporting Flume on his European tour and has already earned a reputation as a ferocious talent in the field of electronic music. See for yourself: hit play on the bonifide banger “Where Are U Now” below; it’s been played almost 700,000 times on Spotify.

Bonzai’s association with fellow 20 year old DJ and producer Mura Masa has been instrumental to her development and rising popularity. The pair have been in cahoots for the last couple of years, Bonzai was signed to Masa’s Anchor Point record label before recently penning a deal with Columbia Records. Masa produced a number of Bonzai’s tracks and in turn Bonzai has provided the vocal and her own creative input on a number of Mura Masa’s tunes. The two collaborate commendably and Bonzai says that is down to how close they are as friends.

Tipped for the big time by unrivalled musical tastemaker Annie Mac – she awarded Bonzai with two “Hottest Record” accolades once for “Doses” off her debut EP Royah and again this year for a track off Sleepy Hungry “No Rest”. The Lunacy EP is Bonzai’s latest effort and it’s 13 minutes of in-your-face, electro savagery, it gets the people goin. Check out the trippy video for “I Did” below:

Bonzai’s current track collection can be seen as completely chaotic – but that’s the best thing about her, a refreshing lack of conformity that allows her to test the limits and discover what the new infectious dance hall sound will be through her creative process.

Here at Ticketweb we admire what Bonzai is doing, we believe she is a very important artist for the future and can’t wait for her impending debut album release. A key clause in Bonzai’s new record deal is that she will maintain full creative control over her music and how it is released. You do you Bonzai… you do you.

This is experimental music that can blow the top off any venue live, and has such an endearing draw on record, that the listener is left awe-inspired by this new-wave, up-side-down pop.

Make sure you never miss a gig; download the TicketWeb App now and make Bonzai one of your favourite artists!
