Festival Guide: The Great Escape’s First Fifty
Autumn has arrived and festival season is a distant memory... Or is it? First Fifty is here to save us from the doom and gloom.
Music / New Music
Meet SHY Martin - breaking out from behind the mixing board to become your new favourite pop star.
Trust us – if you’re a pop fan, you may not know you know, but you will know SHY Martin’s work.
Confused? Read on…
Who?
Swedish songwriter turned artist Sara Hjellström – AKA SHY Martin.
The Sound
SHY Martin makes eminently danceable music with a definitive edge, all whilst maintaining her pop sensibilities. The Scandinavian makes the kind of music that would sound equally brilliant coming out of the speakers in a Shoreditch basement club at 3 in the morning or blasting over the airwaves on Radio1 at 3 in the afternoon.
If you’re a fan of artists like Julia Michaels, Dua Lipa and Sigrid, then SHY Martin is right up your street.
The Story
One half of songwriting duo Shy, SHY Martin found wild success writing for artists such as The Chainsmokers, Bebe Rexha, Matt Terry, Jess Glynne and Kygo and Ellie Goulding.
Stepping out as an artist in her own right, Shy Martin broke through in 2016 as the featured artist on the huge Mike Perry streaming hit The Ocean. The cut was officially the most streamed song on Spotify that year.
The musician released her debut solo single at the tail end of 2017, the heartbreaking Good Together, quickly following up the release with a handful of tracks released over the following year.
An emerging live act, SHY Martin spent last summer touring the festival circuit, sharing the bill with acts such as The Black Eyed Peas, Post Malone and Astrid S.
