The Glasgow based indie quartet who we believe take their name from an 1850 Russian painting. The title refers to an old sailing expression referring to a wave of incredible size that comes after a succession of incrementally larger waves. The line up features Haydn and Elina on vocals and guitars with Louise on synths and Lewis on drums.
Multiple vocal layers played over ’80s punk-rock guitars & synths. It’s perfect a juxtaposition between light and dark with some anthemic choruses. Check out the track “Liars” from the band’s debut EP, “Reformation.”
As singer Elina told The Line Of Best Fit, “Lyrically the song is all about the society and everyone around us telling us to be a certain way, to fit into a box. It was written out of frustration towards the way you end up suppressing who you are and everything that makes you different from everyone else. The chorus lyrics “you are killing me” is really aimed at anyone in our lives who has once told you that you can’t be this or you shouldn’t wear that”.
Formed a little over a year ago from the rich soil of the Glasgow gig scene the band have quickly established their own artistic manifesto. Their debut EP ‘Reformation’ was released earlier this year on indie label Distiller Records (also home to The Ramona Flowers and Bloody Knees) was recorded with producer Dan Austin famed for his work with Placebo and Pixies.
