Interview: No Hot Ashes

We chat to the Stockport indie-pop-makers

Coming straight outta Stockport, No Hot Ashes have have spent much of 2018 making a name for themselves with their eminently dancy pop tunes. The quartet have supported the likes of Blossoms and Spring King and amassed over two million streams on Spotify.

No Hot Ashes hit the road later this month, headlining two dates of the CloseUp Tour in Birmingham and Liverpool.

Ahead of the shows, we caught up with lead singer Issac to get the lowdown on their hometown, and what fans can expect from their upcoming gigs…

—

Hi Issac! Can you tell us where in the world you are right now, and what you’re up to?

We’re currently back in our home town following a mega show at the Manchester Ritz for NBHD Festival. Tending to chickens and keeping up family relationships.

Describe your sound in three words.

Groovy disco biscuits.

We’re spending the day in Stockport. What should we check out?

I’ll be honest, there’s not much. Check out the hat museum, avoid the pigeons, they’re violent.

If you could play a show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who else would be on the line-up?

Somewhere with a bit of sun supporting Chic.

What was the last gig you went to?

We don’t get to get out and watch too many gigs cos we’re always out playing through the weekends. I went to catch Vundabar at The Castle in Manchester a few months back though and that was a great show.

Apart from the essentials (passport, instruments etc) what is one thing you absolutely have to bring on tour with you?

Lozenges, loads of lozenges.

What can people expect from a No Hot Ashes live show?

Shape-throwing and sweat.

Any pre-gig rituals?

If anyone remembers the ghetto blaster then we dance through Jungle Boogie to get us loose.

Anything else you want to shout about?

Be on the look out in the new year, we’re making big movements.

Thanks Issac!
