Everything you need to know about the South London venue...
If you like great new music and FREE gigs then boy oh boy have we got some good news for you.
Welsh indie rockers Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard (so good they named them thrice) are playing a free show at London’s Pop Brixton on Wednesday 31 July 2019.
We’ll be there in force, singing along to their rather excellent brand new single Love Forever.
Ahead of the gig, we caught up with the band’s frontman Tom, to get to know them a bit better…
Hi Tom! Where are you in the world right now and what are you up to?
I’m sat in my car melting waiting pick up the rest of the band outside my house. We’re off to Cornwall today to play Leopallooza.
Describe your sound in three words?
Bolan rip off.
What was the first gig you went to?
I went to see Linkin Park at the Motorpoint Arena, which was then the CIA. It was all a bit moody but I was into it at the time. I think it showed me how I wanted to be a musician; the performative aspect of it all was really exciting to be a part of.
What’s your favourite live venue and where would your dream gig to perform be?
My favourite venue changes from day-to-day. I have a couple of solid favourites but I think Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff tops the list, with YES, Manchester a solid second. Both beautiful venues ran by beautiful hard-working people. Dream gig would be Barry Memorial Hall. It’s a huge venue back in our hometown. I reckon it would be mental.
Do you have any secret pre-gig rituals?
Me and Ed gargle saltwater and hail Satan whilst sacrificing a dove. It gets us in the mood.
How did it feel performing on the BBC Introducing Stage at Glastonbury?
Glasto was amazing. Just being there surrounded by such talented people was really inspiring. We owe a lot to BBC Introducing and the team in Wales for giving us that opportunity.
We’re pretty into giving as much as we can live (much like Meatloaf used to do in the old days) so I hope we gave everything we could!
How did it feel to find out that Noel Gallagher and Miles Kane have mentioned Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard in interviews?
Really great. It’s really inspiring to be mentioned by such colossal talents. They’ve both been staples of rock music for a long time so it really is an honour to be mentioned. I still can’t really believe it!
Have you answered Noel’s question regarding an album release?
We have a studio in Cardiff where we record all of our stuff, so fortunately for Noel, the record is pretty much done and ready. We’re just waiting for that special someone to put it out.
We know you’re heading up to Glasgow for Tenement Trail, are there any other bands that are also playing that you’re really hyped to see?
I adore Squid, and just want to watch Squid every day until the day I die. I want to be in Squid, I wish I was Squid.
What can you tell us about your single Love Forever?
I’m really hyped to be releasing this song. It’s been a song that I’ve loved forever and it’s really great to hear it out there. I wrote it when I was finding it difficult to write songs about politics and love separately, so thought I’d have a go at writing both simultaneously!
Anything else you want to shout about?
Everything I’d love to shout about is kind of under wraps for a little while, so I’m sure you’ll hear me shouting soon!
What can we expect from you for the rest of 2019?
We’ve got some sweet dates with Otherkin, as well as Neighbourhood Festival and Tenement Trail, plus a really exciting tour announcement too. We’re constantly in the mood to be putting out new music, so will be keeping on top of that for sure!
