Alexander are one of the best new bands I’ve heard all year. When a friend first played me “Four A.M” I was blown away and I’m certain that they are going to make waves over the next 12 months. They’re heading out on tour in a couple of weeks so I had a nice chat to Anth and James from the band to see how they’re feeling about it.
Hi! How are you all?
James: Hey mate! We’re good thanks, hope you’re well!
How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?
Anth: I’d say Alternative Pop is probably the best way to explain our vibe. Catchy pop music with Alternative beats and grooves!
J: Always a tough one to answer! I agree with Anth, check us out and let me know what to say in the next interview!
The video for “Four A.M” is AMAZING. How did it come together?
J: It was a collaboration of ideas really from ourselves, our manager and the director we worked with (Jamie Korn, be his mate, he’s great). We all love the nostalgic 90s stuff and Jamie K brought that to life with the idea of us hanging out with a dream phone mashed up with the saved by the bell intro!
A: We liked the idea of trying something new as a band, our video for ‘Drive’ was our first studio shoot at Waterloo Studios in London and we had so much fun. So we liked the idea of recreating that studio feel with Four A.M, lots of colours with an artistic twist! Big love to Jamie K for the fabulous ideas and our friend Casey Roarty for the jazzy design work!
You’re going on tour soon! What essentials do you take on the road with you?
J: A pack of smokes! For when our Tour Manager is going my head in! Nah just kidding, we all have our own home comforts that we like to take out. I like to take a pillow from home to keep me comfy on the long drives! Oh and lots of sharpies, everyone always seems to need a sharpie.
A: Yeah we all have our essentials, I’m a fan of herbal teas so I keep stocked up on those to drink pre-show. I can never go anywhere without the album ‘Come Away With Me’ by Norah Jones, perfect wind down music after a show.
Any pre gig rituals?
A: Us vocalists tend to do a warm up after taking some Vocalzone, quick toilet time, then hype each other up ready for stage.
J: Yeah big each other up and making each other feel good is important. We always have a good laugh before heading on stage to get us all out there in a great mood ready for the show.
What was the last live show you went to as a punter?
A: I caught Florence on her UK tour in September. The energy and intimacy she brought to an arena show was amazing, I really admire her as an artist and how she brings so much presence to her performance. From the brass section to the harp, everything about her band and performance was flawless.
J: I like heading to local shows to show support to our friends in bands and see how the local scene is doing. We have some great venues and wicked bands up here in the North East.
If you could play one show anywhere in the world, where would it be and who else would be on the bill?
A: Personally I’d love to play a show in New York with Fleetwood Mac, dream performance right there!
J: Let’s go with on a beach in Hawaii with Shania Twain!
Anything else you want to shout about?
A: Can’t wait to see you guys on the road in October, we’ll give you a taster of what’s to come for us musically in 2016!
J: We’re so excited to hit the road in October, thanks to everyone for checking out the tracks we’ve released this year. Come listen to our set at the shows and have a dance!
