Festival Guide: Wilderness

Welcome to the wonderful world of Wilderness...

Travel to a harmonious world of merriment, self-discovery and manic musical mayhem this August at the UK’s most intoxicatingly immersive music and arts festival. We give you Wilderness.

Returning to Cornbury for season eight with a programme that continues to push the boundaries. The first wave of eclectic music, sumptuous communal dining, theatrical extravagance and thought-provoking debate has been announced, and it just gets better and better. This year’s festivities run from the 2nd – 5th of August. Check out this video to get the feel of this truly special weekend.

What’s Wilderness then?

These days many festivals claim that they have “something for everyone” – Wilderness have taken this expression in the most literal sense possible. Attendees can immerse themselves in long-table banquets, cricket, firewalking, theatre workshops, pop-up opera, live comedy, open-air theatre, talks and debates, massage, meditation, yoga, swimming, archery, boating and fly fishing to name a few and oh yeah, there is also an immense line-up of world-renowned acts.

Let me paint you a picture; it’s a sunny summer weekend, you wake up naturally to the sound of lackadaisically lapping lakes, the only concern you have in the world is whether or not you can fit a massage into the day’s agenda between your morning dip and afternoon drumming workshop. The remainder of the day and night has been mapped out; you know you’re going to kill it at Hip-Hop karaoke before seeing three of your favourite acts on three different stages, followed by refuelling for the “Series Of Extraordinary Events” with a professionally prepared banquet for dinner. By the time Monday morning rolls around you will realise you haven’t thought about the real world for three full days.

Where’s it happening?

Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire is the picture-perfect, tranquil backdrop for Wilderness. This remarkable setting really provides a utopian wonderland for all of the festival’s patrons.

The photo gallery is something to behold as the perfectly fitting, woodland, deer sanctuary location needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.

Who’s playing?

As I have alluded to, Wilderness is about a lot more than just the music, however, this has not stopped them from delivering a cracking line-up.

Nile Rodgers & Chic

Bastille

Jon Hopkins

Straight off the bat we can see how Wilderness have aimed for diversity in the 2017 line-up, there’s something for everyone in the headliners alone! Have a gander at all the genre-crossing music on display over the weekend in the line-up poster below.

A portion of the other attractions at the festival should be mentioned here too. Yotam Ottolenghi will host a Long Table Banquet, Santiago Lastra and Sam Buckley will also be catering for the masses over the weekend. Add to the menu a luxury lakeside spa, talks and debates from-high end luminaries, writers and experts and a world-class “Series Of Extraordinary Events” and you have an incredible weekend.
