Festival Guide: Liverpool Sound City

The new music festival returns to Merseyside this spring.

Roll up, you already know what it is. Liverpool Sound City is going down on 4-5 May 2019 this year. 

Liverpool Sound City has come on leaps and bounds since its creation in 2008. It has the ability to grab the city by its shoulders and shake it into a complete state of musical awakening. 

What’s Liverpool Sound City then?

Liverpool Sound City is a metropolitan independent festival and conference dedicated to new music. The impressive and extensive list of artists who have previously played the festival includes Calvin Harris, The xx, The Maccabees, Ed Sheeran, John Hopkins, Alt J, Royal Blood, The Vaccines and Flaming Lips. The list goes on and Liverpool Sound City is an incredibly important avenue through which new music is exposed to the UK public. 

Where’s it happening?

Across various venues around Liverpool’s creative hub, the Baltic Triangle. 

Who’s playing?

This year’s headliners include:  

Brit nominated Mabel 

UK hip hop royalty Loyle Carner 

Post-punkers Shame

Also appearing over the weekend will be Clean Cut Kid, The Night Cafe, Louis Berry, Blaenavon, King No-One, The Magic Gang, Kara Marni, Confidence Man, The Tea Street band and literally hundreds more. 

A leading showcase for international talent, this year will also see artists from all over the globe descend on Sound City including Australias’s The Jungle Giants, Icelandic synth-pop star BRÍET, South Korea’s Sue Me and Norway’s Pom Poko

Across the weekend they’ll also be wider art showcases from the likes of Gigs & Graphics, Fiesta Bombarda x Postive Vibrations, Tim Peaks Diner, Bands FC, Levi’s Music Project, Shit Indie Disco and more!
