Question; how is it the 18th of August? Seriously, where has summer gone? If only we could extend the seasonal fun… Enter DCODE a brilliant boutique music festival in Spain’s capital.
I can’t think of any reason not to check out DCODE next month. If you haven’t been involved in much of the festival mayhem at home or you haven’t had a holiday all summer it’s a no brainer. However, even if you have been frequenting festivals all summer, or if you have been maximising your annual leave and holidaying like there’s no tomorrow, by the 10th of September you’ll need a blowout. Something to ease the transition into a dreary autumn – DCODE is the ticket – it will still be roasting in Madrid and did I mention tickets are only 40 quid?
The festival
2016 sees DCODE celebrate its sixth year as a festival. It takes place on the campus of The Complutense University of Madrid. They pack 18 hours of music into a non-camping one-dayer. The capacity of the festival is over 25,000 and its location makes it easy to get back into the city centre. Artists who have played in previous years include Sam Smith, The Killers, Beck and Royal Blood.
Getting there
There’s no shortage of airlines that fly from the UK to Madrid. BA, Easyjet and Ryanair all operate multiple flights daily. A quick search on Skyscanner will get you return flights from London for less than £100. Winner!
Staying there
Madrid is one of the most visited cities in the world and as such, the range of places to stay is very diverse. There are plenty of hostels and more upmarket hotels. For something different why not try Airbnb where you can rent out someone’s cool apartment for a few days! Check out how awesome this one looks!
Other things to do
If art is your thing, and you’ve got some time before your flight home then a visit to Museo Del Prado is essential.
The Music
The festival has consistently come up with an exciting list of established international acts, sought after young guns and popular Spanish artists. This year is no different. Expect scintillating sets that will raise your sun-kissed arms in the air from;
Mark Ronson
Jungle
Bunbury
Zara Larsson
Another artist who we are very excited about is Dagny – she has taken the world by storm with her first release and has smashed it at festivals such as Citadel already this summer. Have a read of this and see why we are so pumped to see her again.
There really is amazing variety in the lineup, everything from old school rockers to pumping DJs and rising pop superstars will be strutting their stuff on the day. Check out the full lineup below:
