It’s time to brush up on your Spanish skills. One of this year’s hottest festivals is taking place in Madrid in September. The perfect place to wave goodbye to summer with one big blow out, here’s what you need to know.
2015 sees DCODE celebrate its fifth year as a festival. It takes place on the campus of The Complutense University of Madrid. The capacity of the festival is over 25,000 and its location makes it easy to get back into the city centre. Artists who have played in previous years include Kasabian, The Killers, Beck and Royal Blood.
The main reason for your trip! Headlining is….
The one and only Sam Smith
Spanish electronic folk heroes Crystal Fighters
The legendary Suede
And one of the best live bands in the world, Foals!
There’s plenty of Spanish talent on the line-up too. Who knows, you might discover your new favourite band.
There’s no shortage of airlines that fly from the UK to Madrid. BA, Easyjet and Ryanair all operate multiple flights daily. A quick search on Skyscanner will get you return flights from London from around £150. Winner!
Madrid is one of the most visited cities in the world and as such the range of places to stay is very diverse. There are plenty of hostels and more upmarket hotels. For something different why not try Airbnb where you can rent out someone’s cool apartment for a few days! Check out how awesome this one looks!
Other things to do
If art is your thing, and you’ve got some time before your flight home then a visit to Museo Del Prado is essential. Over the weekend of the festival there is a special Picasso exhibition taking place.
If you’re more into Football than art, Barcelona are in town that weekend playing Atletico Madrid. A great chance to see Messi live in action!
