Club NME: Ticketweb chats to Carnival Youth

Headlining Club NME this week is Latvian indie four-piece Carnival Youth. We caught up with the lads and discussed everything from skate-park parties and absinthe to saunas and Kit Harrington.

What do you usually do on Friday nights when you’re not providing the entertainment at Club NME?

It always depends on where we are and how we are feeling. We love to hang out with our friends at the local bars, sometimes we play board-games. Or visit the country side and go into sauna. Great company is the essence, things you do comes secondary.

What’s the closest you’ve got to a weekend that could have been straight out of The Hangover?

We used to do a lot of crazy things when we were teens. We used to go to these skate-park parties and then, for example, spent the night sleeping on an oven at some girl’s grandmother’s house. Some crazy stuff to remember, or not. Now it’s a bit different, but you gotta go wild from time to time.

What are your ultimate Friday night party jams?

The National – Mr. November

Metronomy – Old Skool

Tom Vek – Aroused

M83 – Do It, Try It

What are you drinking – do you have a tipple of choice?

We are flexible. Old fashioned is one of our favourites, but we also like pure whisky, wine, IPA beer. Oh, we love ale as well. Sometimes it’s Gin & Tonic or some mixed shots. During this tour we found ourselves drinking Absinthe and Becherovka in Prague. They are quite nice too.

How long do you spend looking in the mirror before you’re ready to hit the town?

Alex – 3 hours

Edgars – minus 5 minutes

Emils – does not have a mirror

Robert – 24 / 7

You’re at a club, where can we expect to find you – loitering at the bar, throwing some shapes on the dance floor, chatting someone up, sitting in a corner?

Alex – loitering at the bar

Robert – on the dance floor

Edgars – sitting in a corner

Emils – chatting someone up

You’ve just left the club and you’re looking for a 4am snack, what’s your go-to post-club grub?

At that point, anything works.

Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever spotted on a night out?

Once in Camden Kit Harrington was in the audience at our gig.

What’s your best/worst journey home story? Ever got stranded in the middle of nowhere?

Once on a tour our car broke down somewhere in Poland on a highway. The day was very hot and we had nothing to drink. In the end we were sleeping under the bridge for three hours and drinking mozzarella.

Worst Friday night injury – Frinjury, if you will?

We always fall on our feet, like cats. We have broken nothing but our pride.

Saturday morning has rolled around and you’ve got a bit of a sore head – what’s your best hangover cure?

Sitting in a hot-tub, listening to obscure Japanese indie bands and drinking milkshakes

Now that’s a band (and a Saturday morning) that we can get on board with. Don’t miss them this Friday.
