Festival Guide: Stow Festival

The Stow Festival is back with a bang in 2016, with over 100 acts playing over four days THIS WEEK. The magic happens on 15/16/17/18 September.

What’s Stow Festival then?

The Stow Festival is grassroots in the truest sense. It’s a unique festival in that most of it is FREE. Yep, you read that right, it’s growing too, they are expecting the biggest turnout yet and if the weather forecast for this weekend is legit; I can’t think of a better place to enjoy the sun. In 2015 the festival attracted more than 7,000 people.

“Music takes over” is the slogan of the festival and is the obvious focus of the long weekend but as well as music, there are tonnes of really unique activations to get immersed in, the festival features comedy, walking tours, panel discussions, art workshops and the Small Wonder Records exhibit.

Where’s it happening?

WalthamSTOW… the name makes more sense now right? The buzzing town in North East London has been home for The Stow Festival for six years. The area serves as a haven for new bands and up and coming acts. Stow fest 2015 was nominated for Best Grassroots Festival & Best Metropolitan Festival in the UK Festival Awards.

There is an abundance of groovy venues in Walthamstow and Stow Fest utilizes more than 15 of them. These include; Wild Card Brewery, Gods Own Junkyard, Small Wonder Records, and St. Barnabas Church to name but a few. The program is spread out in these venues and held on various pop-up stages in the town across the weekend. The festival hub is located at Hoe Street Central and the infamous Chequers pub will even be serving the festival’s own Stow Fest Ale, how cool is that?

Who’s playing?

The music line-up this year is the strongest yet, with the usual mixture of high-profile acts performing alongside some of the best musical talent Walthamstow has to offer. The festival spans a dizzying array of musical genres such as psych rock, classical, house, techno, smooth AOR grooves, reggae, musical comedy, punk, and much more.
