The musician picks out her essential tour bus tunes ahead of her upcoming gig at Scala London.
Still in his early ’20s, Dutch DJ and producer Maurice West has achieved a remarkable amount in his fledgeling career so far.
Signed to the W&W imprint Mainstage Music, the young superstar broke through in a big way in 2015 with a wave of tracks including Blaze and Kung Fu (with Kenny G) earning support and praise from artists he admires such as Armin Van Buuren, Tiësto, Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Martin Garrix and Nicky Romero.
Maurice dropped his latest track, the W&W collaboration tune Matrix earlier this year, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Keanu Reeves masterpiece.
Watch the official video for the tune below:
Earning plaudits for his hugely energetic live shows, West has performed at some of the most prestigious electronic festivals in the world such as Tomorrowland and Ultra.
The DJ will be passing through London on 10 May 2019, performing a set at the world famous Ministry of Sound Club.
Ahead of the show, we got Maurice to pick out some of his current favourite tunes to listen to whilst touring the globe and to tell us a bit about them.
Lionel Richie – All Night Long
This is what me and my manager put on at very random times and it always, I repeat, ALWAYS gets you hyped when that chorus kicks in.
Daft Punk – Digital Love
I’m a big Daft Punk fan and love to listen to their stuff to get inspired. Digital Love is one of those songs that can put me in a really good mood at the start of the day. Also, the solo in there is amazing.
Stevie Wonder – Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing
I remember the first CD’s that I bought were Stevie Wonder’s albums Innervisions and Talking Book. My all-time favourite by him is Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing, which accordingly will help me not to worry about a thing.
2 Brothers On The 4th Floor – Fly
90’s euro dance is the bomb. This song was on a CD I used to listen to when I was really young called Yabba Dabba Dance. It had all these euro dance songs that still sound just as good as they did back then.
Mat Zo – Synapse Dynamics (Arty Remix)
This one is just pure euphoria. I play the piano so I’m really a sucker for good chord progressions and melodies.
SFB – Way It Goes
Random Dutch song here on the list. It’s a real party song and the hook melody is just so good. Always gets me in a vibe.
CamelPhat x Christoph – Breathe (feat. Jem Cooke)
I actually go to a lot of techno or more underground parties and festivals when I have the time. This specific song is so nice to put on whenever you’re on the road, on a plane, going places. It almost feels like it gets you to your destination faster.
PPK – Resurrection
I recently released my own remix of this classic. I’ve been getting into old trance songs more and more and this one just has such a hypnotizing melody. My remix works great at my shows and I’m sure people love to listen to it at home as well but I’d rather listen to the original haha!
Disclosure – Funky Sensation
It’s housy, it’s disco, it’s funk, it’s basically everything I need on a daily basis. As you might have noticed I listen to a lot of different music but not a day in my life will go by without a song like this.
Sub Zero Project & Phuture Noize – Call Of The Sacred
Next to all these very easily accessible songs this one might feel a little weird. As I said I listen to a lot of different sorts of music. This song might come off as “aggressive” for some people but if you listen carefully you can find the beauty in it. Great melody and very euphoric and energetic climax.
Maurice West will be spinning tunes in London this May. Here’s the date:
