Case study: The Killers at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut.

Discover how King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut used Ticketmaster’s mobile ticketing solution for The Killers’ gig!

In November 2018, at The Killers’ Birmingham Genting Arena shows, DF Concerts discussed a potential one-off show at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut to take place around their TRNSMT headline appearance in Glasgow on Sunday 8 July 2018. When the gig was confirmed, all aspects of how to ticket this incredibly high profile underplay were considered.

The goal: A reliable solution

DF Concerts and the artist needed a reliable ticketing solution that could handle high-demand as well as the ability to promote it to targeted groups of dedicated fans, while removing the opportunity to resell tickets.

The challenge: A stadium band performing in a grassroots venue!

This was a welcome return for the band to King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut after their last show at the venue in 2004, over 10 years ago, but now the band routinely play headline festival slots and arenas rather than 300 cap venues.

The solution: Selling e-tickets direct into the hands of fans

After discussing options for purchasing tickets, the key issue was that entry had to be as smooth and easy as possible for the customer. DF Concerts chose Ticketmaster’s e-ticketing solution for the night of the show. Its ability to sell tickets directly to dedicated fans to stop resales, and ease of deployment, were the reasons for their decision.

The results: We love it when a plan comes together!

The show was announced on Friday, 6 July at midday, and the tickets went on sale at 14:00 that same day via Ticketmaster to fan club members and TRNSMT Festival ticket holders only and sold out within record time. When the venue’s doors opened, the mobile ticketing solution for entry went extremely smoothly. DF Concerts also used Ticketmaster’s scanner system on the night, which was thoroughly appreciated from everyone from the venue to the artists themselves.

The band squeezed on to the tiny stage to open their gig with an outing of Midnight Show from their seminal debut album Hot Fuss, before ripping into a career-spanning 13-track set list. The gig will go down as one of the greatest in King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut’s prestigious and long history!
