Let us introduce you to Dagny. The quirky Norwegian who looks set to strengthen Scandinavia’s stronghold on pop music.
Not since the days of Abba and A-Ha (don’t deny how much of a tune “Take On Me” is) has Scandinavia been such a prolific producer of pop talent. Just in the past few years the trifecta of Sweden, Denmark and Norway have produced such brill artists like Kygo, Aurora, MØ and Tove Lo as well as songwriting talent like Shelback (Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen) Peter Svensson (The Weeknd, Ariana Grande) Mattman & Robin (Ellie Goulding, DNCE) and ROSTAM (Vampire Weekend, Charli XCX). Now you can add Dagny to that list, who released debut single “Backbeat” to much fanfare earlier this year.
Premiered by Zane Lowe, “Backbeat”, comes in at the radio friendly length of 3 minutes and 28 seconds and is a pure slice of pop joy. It’s catchy as hell and has gone down a storm with the public. To date the tune has been streamed more than 20 million times on Spotify. Not too shabby for a debut. Check out the danceable track and ace visuals below.
How do you follow that up? With a guest appearance from the hotly tipped BØRNS is how. Treat your ears to “Fool’s Gold” below. We need a video for this please ASAP Daggers.
Dagny is playing in London at the end of the month but unsurprisingly the gig is completely sold out. Don’t worry though she is booked for the amazing DCODE festival in mid-September. This is a golden opportunity to see the gnarly Norwegian in action at a sunny boutique festival. Here’s everything you need to know about DCODE
