Introducing the 18-year-old, multi-talented south Londoner who’s sound, ambition and (real) name ensure that he has always been destined for stardom. We give you Cosmo Pyke.
Singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, skater, spray-paint artist & model… C’mon Cosmo, you’re making the rest of us look bad! It appears that music is getting the majority of Pyke’s attention right now; he’s been performing for years but only recently decided to record his work for posterity. And yep, you guessed it… it’s great.
Like a woozy Jamie T/Mac Demarco, Cosmo’s debut single “Social Sites” is a lo-fi guitar jam about his ex-girlfriend and the role social media plays in a relationship. It’s been streamed on Spotify almost half a million times. The song oozes chill and coupled with the below groovy 70’s style video it’s absolute vibesville, check it out:
Pyke is already an influential model around South London. Fashion is a part of society that I have never fully understood; it is a truly baffling ever-changing art form that I cannot seem to grasp and I am more than OK with that. Cosmo put the video for “Social Sites” together with help from his friends from BRIT school. In the video Cosmo is sporting socks and sandals – which I have been led to believe is a complete fashion “no no”, Pyke has gone for the sandals, socks & dreadlocks look and evidently is pulling it off. You win again fashion.
The Peckham-born overachiever also appears in Frank Ocean’s music video for his massive hit “Nikes”. You may have also encountered him when he opened for fellow young, London-bred artist Rat Boy on his first tour.
“Social Sites” was our only inkling as to what the EP would sound like until Pyke released his new single last week. Once again, Cosmo Pyke is straight chillin transporting you from a cold and rainy British February to a warm & calm Hawaiian July with ease. Wrap your ears around “Chronic Sunshine” below.
The debut EP Just Cosmo was produced by Fraser T Smith (Kano, Sam Smith, Stormzy) and is due out on the 20th of February. Pyke plays a sold-out show in The Montague Arms in March but has just announced a show at Bussey Building in Peckham this May.
