New Music

Introducing: Wovoka Gentle

Prepare to descend down a dreamy rabbit hole with the boundlessly experimental pop-art project that is Wovoka Gentle…

WHO?

A London-based trio made up of multi instrumentalists William J. Stokes and twins Imogen and Ellie Mason. We haven’t been able to find out what Wovoka Gentle means either. We’re letting it slide.

THE SOUND

People are finding it hard to pin these guys down. They’re throwing around terms like pysch-folk,  experimental folk and electronic-leaning experimental pop. On the Venn diagram of music genres that puts them firmly in the experimental folk camp, but don’t get bogged down with labels cowboy! Check out the curiously freaky video for “They Mostly Come At Night Mostly” a track the band have described as a “psychedelic hymn”…

THE STORY

Having formed in 2014, the band cut their teeth composing scores for avant-garde physical theatre companies. The techniques and experiences gathered during that time has informed both their music and the visual language of their live shows. They currently reside on the beautifully named Yucatan Records home to Matthew & The Atlas, amongst others.

ESSENTIAL TRACKS

The ethereal Branscombe was released on the 12th of May and is blissful…

Whilst “All Exterior Dark” is racking up the streams…

WHERE CAN I SEE THEM LIVE?

Oh man! The band’s show with the wonderful Eyedress at Birthdays in Stoke Newington on June 14th 2017 is sold out so check out Wovoka Gentle’s upcoming UK shows at www.ticketweb.co.uk/wovokagentle
