Club NME is a shindig that happens every Friday at KOKO, so with that in mind, we want to get to the bottom of your ultimate Friday night…
Headlining this week is London’s FEMME. We spoke about all things Friday night related.
What do you usually do on Friday nights when you’re not providing the entertainment at Club NME?
I train my dragons and pump some iron. If I’m feeling really frisky I’ll send out some obscene snaps with the BGs and neck a couple of bottles of Moet.
What’s the closest you’ve got to a weekend that could have been straight out of The Hangover?
I feel like every time we go out on tour with the full crew something weird and Hangover-style happens. A couple of months back we were in Hamburg and in the space of 24hrs we managed to lose a passport, fall over an consequently be dragged on a luggage conveyor belt, nearly miss a flight, be mistaken for German prostitutes, sign some autographs and stay up all night in a hostel that smelled like absolute toilet whilst one of us was being sick in one of those liquids bags they give you at the airport. Good times.
What are your ultimate Friday night party jams?
Right now I’m really into Nao and that new Missy Elliot tune. I also never get through a house party without putting on Flowers by Sweet Female Attitude, Heartbroken by T2 or the Kaytranada Janet Jackson remix. Wildfire by SBTRKT also usually makes it into my playlist somewhere around 2am.
What are you drinking – do you have a tipple of choice?
Champagne (and by that I mean anything that’s fizzy and alcoholic, I live in New Cross) but if there’s ever an Amaretto Sour or White Russian on offer I’ll be first at the bar.
How long do you spend looking in the mirror before you’re ready to hit the town?
Approximately 5days. Monday – Friday.
You’re at a club, where can we expect to find you – loitering at the bar, throwing some shapes on the dance floor, chatting someone up, sitting in a corner?
Depends what time in the evening it is. If it’s post midnight I’ll be on the dance floor. Pre-midnight I’ll be in the corner chatting up all the hunnies.
You’ve just left the club and you’re looking for a 4am snack, what’s your go-to post-club grub?
Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever spotted on a night out?
PRINCE. In LA. Yeah, it happened. And I’ve taken a hungover swim in Beck’s pool; he said he liked my bathing suit. I’ve also huddled for a photo with Donatella Versace on a night out and most recently met Stevie Wonder. So you know no-one really….
What’s your best/worst journey home story? Ever got stranded in the middle of nowhere?
Last year we played OYA festival in Norway. We didn’t have enough money for hotel rooms so we pulled an all-nighter. The Irish side of my management team came with us and got us all absolutely battered. We had a 7am flight back and we were all absolutely blitzed in the airport. They let us on the flight but one of the Bullet Girls had travel sickness (you may call it alcohol poisoning) so was spewing up all the way back. I managed to get everyone back home around 11/12noon but I walked in the door to find my cat had died on the bathroom floor.
Worst Friday night injury – Frinjury, if you will?
I once fell in a really spikey bush when I was a teenager and managed to skin both my knees on the way down. Scars on both my knees to prove it.
Saturday morning has rolled around and you’ve got a bit of a sore head – what’s your best hangover cure?
I like to get a Bubble Tea and some fresh Vietnamese food from a local place near me called Panda Panda in Deptford. It has never let me down.
